Breast Implants
Breast Augmentation is one of the most common aesthetic procedures that Dr. Bastidas performs in his New York and New Jersey locations. Our goal is to create fuller but naturally appearing breasts that are customized perfectly for your body type. On our initial consultation, a thorough exam will be performed and the various options will be discussed. Implant type (saline or silicone), Implant shape (smooth round or anatomic) and incision placement (around the areola or underneath the breast) will be determined.

Saline Breast implants are round silicone shells filled with salt water. They are mandatory for patients younger then 22 years old. Saline breast implants can be placed using a smaller incision since they are not filled they are placed in the pocket. When a saline breast implant ruptures the augmented breast will deflate and the asymmetry will soon be obvious. Saline breast implants may sometimes cause rippling under the skin of very thin patients. Dr. Bastidas places saline breast typically in a sub-pectoral or sub-fascial plane to allow for proper tissue coverage
Silicone Breast implants offer superior texture and form to typical saline breast implants. They can be round shaped or tear-dropped (anatomic). They come in different sized and are preformed, therby requiring a typical 2 inch (5cm) incision in the breast fold for placement. Today’s silicone is much more cohesive then previous years and a rupture would not likely lead to silicone “oozing out” like the previous generation models. Dr. Bastidas uses smooth silicone implants, which have not been associated with ALCL. That being said, Dr. Bastidas still recommends and offers routine exams and surveillance for any implant associated issues.
