Nasal Reconstruction

The nose lies in the center of the face and is the most visible of all facial structures.  It is composed of a lining, structure and skin envelope, all of which must be individually reconstructed in the cases of injury from trauma, malformation, or as result of tumor excision.

Excellent reconstruction results can be achieved by transferring tissue from the other parts of the nose, or sometimes from the forehead or cheek.  Larger defects may require a 2 or 3 stage operation, which are spaced 3-4 weeks apart.  Cartilage grafts from the rib or ear may be required to optimize outcomes depending on how big is the defect.

Plastic surgeons often work in conjunction with dermatologists who perform Moh’s surgery, a process of removing the tumor after examining the margins under a microscope.
